Mid-Suffolk Chapter

  • Gender Equality: Men, women and gender non-conforming individuals deserve to live their lives free from discrimination and harassment in the public and private spheres.  NOW strives to create a world in which all people are treated and viewed as valuable members of society and as equals.
  • Racial and Ethnic Equality: NOW’s activism takes on an intersectional, feminist approach that recognizes the distinct oppressions that different groups experience.  NOW advocates for an end to discrimination based on race and ethnicity in all facets of life, including employment, housing, health services, and education.
  • Reproductive Rights and Health Care Access: NOW is a pro-choice organization that fights for women’s access to safe and legal abortions, contraception, health services, and sex education.
  • Economic Equality and Empowerment: NOW works to close the gender wage gap, and to end discriminatory hiring and employment practices. We work towards ending sexual harassment in the workplace.  We strive to empower women to be and feel financially capable.
  • LGBTQIA Rights: NOW is a strong ally of the LGBTQIA communities. We are committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in all areas of life, including marriage, child custody,  housing, employment, and health services.
  • Ending Violence Against Women: NOW’s unique approach to the issue of violence against women –such as domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, harassment– is the recognition that they are interrelated issues that strive to and result in keeping women oppressed as individuals and as a group.
  • Constitutional Equality: NOW is dedicated to promoting the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.  Currently, the United States Constitution does not protect its citizens from discrimination based on sex. NOW believes that in order to move forward and combat all areas of discrimination, we need to ERA to declare sex discrimination is illegal – once and for all.
